Each capsule contains 300 meg Elemental Iodine
Composition:
Iodine, iodide salts, iodine Polymers and scorbic Acid.
Iodine deficiency is the single most common cause of preventable mental retardation and brain damage in the world. It also decreases child survival, causes goiters, and impairs growth and development. Iodine deficiency in pregnant women causes miscarriages, stillbirths, and other complications. Children with IDD can grow up stunted, apathetic, mentally retarded, and incapable of normal movements, speech, or hearing. Globally, 2.2 billion people (38% of the world's population) live in areas with iodine deficiency and risks its complications. A WHO survey on iodine status worldwide lists Pakistan as having "severe iodine deficiency" with 135 million people having insufficient iodine intake.

Cretinism and Mental Retardation
Cretinism is an extreme form of neurological damage from fetal hypothyroidism. It occurs in severe iodine deficiency and is characterized by gross mental retardation along with varying degrees of short stature, deaf mutism, and spasticity. As many as one in ten of some populations with very severe iodine deficiency may be cretins. Correction of iodine deficiency in Switzerland completely eliminated the appearance of new cases of cretinism, and a similar experience has occurred in other countries (Stanbury et al., 1998).
Mental retardation is the most common iodine deficiency in children. Young children, who do not receive adequate iodine through their diet, fall prsy to mental retardation and sometimes also face physical problems such as overall weakness in the body. New born children suffer from mental retardation, when women do not consume sufficient iodine through their diet during pregnancy.
Goiter
Goiter is characterized by swelling of the thyroid gland. In goiter, due to the lack of sufficient iodine, the thyroid gland enlarges in an attempt to cope up with the production of sufficient thyroid hormone. In patients suffering from goiter, nodules are developed and in worsened cases, breathing and swallowing problems along with choking are also observed.
Hypothyroidism
The most common of all iodine deficiency symptoms in children as well as adults is hypothyroidism. Now, you may ask, what is hypothyroidism? Well, hypothyroidism is the result of severe iodine deficiency in the body. This condition is characterized by a 'below normal' production of thyroid hormone in I the body. Hypothyroidism is mostly found in underdeveloped countries, where people are deprived of iodine intake through diet for a long time. Hypothyroidism, in turn leads to many other symptoms such as
Median urinary iodine concentration | corresponding iodine intake | Iodine nutrition |

20-50 | 30-75 | moderate deficiency |
50-100 | 175-150 | mild deficiency |
100-200 | 150-300 | optimal |
200-300 | 300-450 | more than adequate |
