TOXICITY OF PHOSPHORUS

Posted by Blog Sunday, March 6, 2011

Excess phosphorus in the blood is called hyperphosphatemia. The kidneys are very efficient at eliminating excess phosphorus. Excess blood phosphorus is mainly found in people with damaged kidneys. Kidneys can become further damaged from kidney stones made from calcium phosphate deposits once kidney function is reduced to a level below 25 percent. Tolerable upper intake levels (UL) for healthy people have been set at three to four grams of phosphorus.
